Design Trails – FAQs
Why travel with Design Trails?
At Design Trails, travel isn’t just what we do — it’s what we love. Our number one goal is to create unforgettable journeys that leave you inspired, connected, and full of stories you’ll carry home forever. Whether you’re a seasoned wanderer or stepping out on your very first adventure, we’re here to make sure your experience is smooth, joyful, and beyond expectations.
Because we keep our groups intentionally small, we really get to know you — your passions, your style, your travel dreams. That intimacy means every trip feels personal, thoughtful, and filled with experiences that most travellers never stumble across. From boutique stays to hidden gems known only to locals, and from headline sights to magical “wow, I never knew this existed” moments, every day is curated with love.
Travel with Sim and you’ll see the world through a design lens: doors open to inspiring spaces, beauty tucked into everyday corners, and laughter-filled moments shared with incredible women. You’ll return home refreshed, recharged, and with memories that will stay with you long after your suitcase is unpacked.
Do I need travel insurance?
Yes — comprehensive travel insurance is a must. It’s the best safety net you can pack, covering everything from cancelled flights to unexpected hiccups. We recommend arranging your policy at the time of booking and making sure it suits your needs. We’ll ask for proof of insurance before departure, and we also encourage you to check the details carefully — especially cancellation cover and COVID-related inclusions.
How many guests are on each tour?
Our groups are boutique by design. Most tours host between 8–12 women, plus your host and driver. We find this is the sweet spot: big enough for great conversation and connection, yet small enough for flexibility, intimacy, and those fabulous bespoke moments.
Can I come solo?
Absolutely! In fact, many of our guests join solo. Our tours are designed to feel warm, inclusive, and friendly — think instant travel sisters.
If you’d like your own room, no problem — just note that a single supplement applies.
If you’d like to be matched with a roommate, let us know. We’ll do our best to pair you up, though if a match isn’t possible, the single supplement will apply.
What if I have my own group?
Even better! We love designing private hosted tours. Whether it’s a getaway with your friends, a mother–daughter escape, or a couples adventure, we’ll work with you to curate something fabulous. Hosted private tours require a minimum of 8 guests — but if you have fewer, we can still craft a private journey with a guide and driver.
What’s included?
Each itinerary clearly lists what’s included, but typically you can expect:
- Airport transfers
- Handpicked boutique accommodation
- All meals
- Private, air-conditioned transport with driver
- A Design Trails host
- Fabulous immersive activities, entries, and surprise private experiences
What about flights and insurance?
We don’t include international airfares or insurance in our packages. This gives you the freedom to choose the flights, airlines, and deals that work best for you (many of our travellers also like to use frequent flyer points).
What if minimum numbers aren’t met?
Our tours require a minimum of guests, which are specified in each itinerary. If we don’t meet that number, we’ll give you options:
Re-costing the itinerary based on fewer travellers
Transferring to another Design Trails tour
Or a full refund of your deposit if the tour can’t go ahead
We’ll always give you plenty of notice so you can plan with confidence.
Can I extend my trip?
Yes! If you’d like to add days before or after the hosted tour, we can help organise hotel extensions, side trips, or full bespoke itineraries. Our network of fabulous local partners means we can tailor something that’s just right for you.
Who else will be on my trip?
For privacy reasons, we can’t share details of your fellow travellers in advance. But once the group is set, we often create a WhatsApp or Messenger chat (with permission), so you can say hello before departure. It’s always a fun way to start connecting early.
Dietary requirements?
Of course! Just let us know when you book, and we’ll do our very best to cater to your needs — whether vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or other special requirements.
Age groups and fitness
Our travellers are typically mid-40s to late 60s, with plenty of fabulous women in their 70s joining too. We welcome mothers and daughters, sisters, friends — and lots of solo adventurers. If you’re fit, healthy, and have a zest for life, you’ll fit right in.
While our tours aren’t strenuous, they do involve walking (sometimes on uneven ground), climbing stairs, and the occasional long day out. Energy, curiosity, and a sense of adventure are the essentials.
Cancellation policy
Our booking and cancellation policy is outlined in our Terms and Conditions. All guests are required to read and accept these terms before joining a Design Trails tour.
